Australian Snow Sports - more than meets the eye!

In a land famous for its sun, sea, sand and surf, it is surprising to discover that Australia is now increasingly renowned for its skiing and snow sports venues, and for so many who are enthusiastic and passionate about snow, Australia's resorts offer the ultimate experience.

There can be no better place to find plenty of snow for both skiing and snowboarding, especially when the United States and the more traditional European countries famous for their snow resorts are all labouring under the kind of swelteringly hot summers that are becoming rapidly more and more prevalent.

Less than a day's journey from Sydney in the mountain ranges of New South Wales, the Snowy Mountains showcase everything that Australia can offer in terms of snow sports and premier ski resort facilities.

Thredbo, situated in the Kosciusko National Park, is popular for it's wonderfully demanding snow terrain and it's self-contained apartments and luxury chalets in the village itself as well as on-snow.  It has a thriving night life with eateries that cater to every taste, and the Thredbo Ski School even offers 'Flat Friday' as an ideal way to start learning the basic rudiments of skiing with expert instructors.

Perisher Blue Australia is unique for being the biggest holiday resort in the entire southern hemisphere, covering 7 mountains that are connected by an amazing total of 50 ski lifts. It boasts the Village 8 Perisher Express chairlift, a real sporting first for a resort outside of Europe, and it offers a huge variety of winter activities including an exciting new Snowtube Park aptly named 'Tube Town'.

Just three hours away from Melbourne in Victoria, the snowfields of Mount Buller offer some of the finest cross-skiing in the country, with 180 beautiful trails and the affordable convenience of ski-in and ski-out hotels. Rising to 1850 meters above sea level, the mountain itself offers a spectacular landscape that is truly memorable and a breath-taking sight to experience.

Home of the Australian Olympic Winter Institute, the resort is conveniently located close to an international airport and boasts parks for tobogganing as well as a spa sanctuary for the ultimate pampering.

Falls Creek is a perfect resort to escape to. Situated near Mount Hotham it offers hospitality catered to every budget and facilities for skiers of every proficiency at the Falls Creek Ski School, from beginners learning the basics, to experts sharpening their skills. With 450 hectares of snowfields, Falls Creek is ideal for snowboarders, snow-bike riders, and adrenaline pumping adventure seekers.

Snow reports are easily accessible for all of Australia's premier resorts, with snow cams that show exactly how the conditions are looking in up to the minute detail, and pictures that offer previews of just what can be expected upon arrival. Australia has simply everything for the perfect snow sports holiday, whether it be skiing lessons for fun, challenging runs that offer the thrill of life time, snowboarding excitement or just charmingly quiet getaway chalets and exquisite dining experiences.
