region of New England stretches from the western slopes of the Great Dividing Range, south to the
country music centre of Tamworth and west to cotton fields of Narrabri. Undulating
tablelands, lush pastures, forests and national parks. Farm stays, 4WD treks, trout

Tenterfield - Aboriginal guides with the Woollool Woollool Cultural Tours. Visits to
Bald Rock, Boonoo Boonoo Falls. Thunderbolt's Hideout, used by the bushranger
Captain
Thunderbolt. Ghost Gully with its unusual formations.
Glen Innes - settled originally by Scots. Some original buildings in the main
street. Standing Stones above the town. Australian Music Festival in October.
Gibraltar
Range National Park east of Glen Innes. Plenty of fossicking opportunities. Trout fishing
in mountain streams in season.
Inverell - a history based on tin and blue sapphires. Plenty of fossicking
opportunities. Visit the Pioneer Village. Gwydir Ranch Park(4WD) for fishing and canoeing.
Visit the Dejon Sapphire centre, an operating plant. Fishing on Lake Copeton.
Armidale - at an elevation of over 1000 metres and known for its gorges and
waterfalls. University town with a large student population.
World Heritage listed
New
England National Park is a must. More of the same at the Oxley Wild Rivers National Park
south of the town. Visit New England Regional Art Museum and Armidale Folk Museum.
Saumarez Homestead
is a fine example of the architecture of the period. Cathedral Rock

Dumaresq Dam.
Tamworth - country music capital of Australia. 11 day
Tamworth
country music festival held
each January. Several horse events during the year. Plenty of farm stays. Horse riding,
sailing, fishing. Fossicking at Nundle and other sites. Fishing at Manilla and Lake
Keepit. Trout in the MacDonald River and Dungowan Creek.
Moree - best known for its warm mineral artesian spa baths.
Aboriginal art at the Moree Plains Gallery and the Yurundiali Aboriginal Corporation.
Trawalla Pecan nut farm, the largest in the southern hemisphere. Cotton farm and gin tours
in season.
Narrabri - services the surrounding cotton farming communities. Home of the huge
Australia Telescope sited west of town.
