New South Wales South Coast View tourism videos

The South Coast area of New South Wales covers the narrow coastal belt from Sydney in the north to the border with Victoria in the south and west to the Great Dividing Range.

National parklands in the west and a series of small towns and villages dotting the often rugged coastline. Rich rolling farmlands and dairy country, sections of rainforest, historic houses, natural harbours, fishing fleets, whale watching, seal and penguin colonies.

Places of Interest

Wollongong - best known as an industrial city but boasting excellent beaches and a outstanding collection of contemporary Australian art.

Fishing fleet operates from Wollongong harbour. Surrounding areas contain some of the most impressive scenery in the state.

Spectacular lookout at Bulli Pass with several walking tracks and lookouts in the mountains behind the city. Surf beaches and rock pools to the north and south of the city.

Lake Illawarra to the south is popular for fishing, prawning and aquatic sports. Popular hang-gliding spots from the northern escarpments.

Kiama - famous for the Kiama blowhole close to the town centre. Two vertical holes in the rock through which spurts of water shoot up to 60 metres in the air when the sea is rough and there is a strong swell.

Tourism award winning Minnamurra rainforest west of the town. Historic timber terrace houses. On the way south, visit Berry, "the town of trees" with its antiques and crafts.

Take a western detour to the lovely Kangaroo Valley which boasts some of the most spectacular scenery on the New South Wales South Coast. Historic Hampden Bridge, constructed in sandstone in 1898, is the oldest suspension bridge in Australia. Further west to the Fitzroy Falls at the top end of the Morton National Park.

new south wales south coast holiday Nowra - popular tourist centre and principal town of the Shoalhaven district. Situated on the Shoalhaven River and opposite Bomaderry on the other bank. The river provides fishing, water-skiing, canoeing, sailing and river cruises.

Visit Meroogal historic home circa 1885 and the Shoalhaven Historical Museum in the old police station.

Fine selection of military aircraft at nearby Naval Aviation Museum at H.M.A.S. Albatross. Shoalhaven Heads at the mouth of the Shoalhaven River enjoys seven miles of sandy beach, a surf area and the quieter waters of the river.

new south wales south coast beachJervis Bay - a fabulous harbour and fringed by a series of small settlements. A string of very white sand beaches and famous for the local oysters and the dolphin pods that populate the bay and greet the cruise boats and sailing craft. Jervis Bay is reputed to have the cleanest, clearest water anywhere in Australia and is ideal for all boating activities.

Huskisson is the main centre for people visiting Jervis Bay and many holiday attractions operate from here. It's history lies in the boat building and fishing industries.

Ulladulla - a fishing town known for its safe harbour and the main centre along this section of the South Coast. Predominantly an area of lakes, lagoons and beaches. Nearby historic Milton for its annual Settlers Fair, Mollymook for its excellent surf beaches and fishing.

Batemans Bay - a fishing port and holiday centre situated on the estuary of the Clyde River. Well known for the freshly caught seafoods and Clyde River oysters. The Batemans Bay area has numerous small beaches with calm waters suitable for children.  Visit the Murramarang National Park and its tame kangaroos at Pebbly Beach. Head south to Moruya and picnic at the unspoiled beaches at Lilli Pilli, Malua Bay and Mossy Point.

Narooma - a scenic setting for this popular fishing resort at the mouth of Wagonga Inlet. More unspoilt beaches and the gateway to Montague Island with its colonies of seals, penguins and birdlife. The local oysters are popular as is sport fishing in the surrounding waters. Scenic and whale watching cruises in season.

new south wales south coast vacationBega - Beaches one day, ski fields the next. Bega is located between the coast and the ski resorts of the Southern Highlands. A prime dairying and cheese area. Well known cheese factory with tours available of historical cheese factory and techniques.

The town hosts a Heritage Centre detailing the history and culture of the region. 

Merimbula - a popular New South Wales holiday resort with fine beaches, lakes, fishing and prawning, excellent golf courses and nearby Ben Boyd National Park. The Pinnacle Walk in this park with multi-coloured rock faces. Enjoy the chain of walking trails through Bournda National Park.

Eden - once a whaling town that now supports a whale watching industry. Killer whale museum. A fishing harbour where you can buy the catch from the dock. Eden is one of the prettiest towns on the south coast. Coastal lookout from Boyds Tower south of the town.
