The Tropical North takes in the area from Tweed Heads at the Queensland border in the north to Wooli and Grafton in the south and west through the hinterland to the Great Dividing Range.

The Tweed coast, a 35 km-long chain of pristine beaches with grassy headlands and quiet villages stretching from the mouth of the Tweed River at Fingal, to Wooyung in the south. 

Mount Warning, the first place in Australia to be touched by the morning sun, the lush river flatlands and sugar cane farms of the Tweed Valley, rainforests and lookouts in the World Heritage listed National Parks of the hinterland, jacarandas and Victorian homes in Grafton, market stalls at Nimbin and a cleansing ale at the classic Billinudgel pub.

Some of the best beaches and resorts in the world offering both excellent surf and quiet coves and estuary waters for the little people. View whale migrations as they pass up the New South Wales coast. Water sports for every taste, fresh water, estuary and sports fishing, boating, cruising, sailing. new south wales holiday makerTweed Heads - the southern end of the famous Gold Coast. The Queensland town of Coolangatta and Tweed Heads, on the New South Wales side of the border, are one and the same location but are divided by the state border, hence they retain individual names.

Home of the Twin Towns Services Club entertainment centre and casino. Popular for fishing in the Tweed estuary and Cobaki Lakes, offshore deep sea fishing, scuba diving and river cruises. Minjungbal Aboriginal Cultural Centre, Melaleuca Station and tea-tree plantation for an historic train ride, Tropical Fruitworld for exotic fruits and Pioneer Plantation for a ride to the top of Banana Mountain.

Kingscliff - - now a popular holiday destination well known for the numerous beachfront cafés and restaurants. South Kingscliff  boasts a patrolled beach in summer, good boat ramps, offshore reefs, and an estuary providing sheltered swimming and fishing. Cabarita Beach has one of the best surf beaches in the area.

Cudgen has it’s lake, a sanctuary for flora and fauna as well as all forms of aquatic sports. Pottsville is a long established holiday spot boasting the Bicentennial Leisure Gardens.

Murwillumbah - a picturesque town that spreads along the western bank of the Tweed River and up into the hills of the McPherson Ranges. The town services the surrounding banana and sugar farms of the Tweed Valley. Jumping off point for the Mt Warning and Border Ranges National Parks. A visit to the Murwillumbah Rainforest and Information Centre for all the information on Mt Warning, the last remnant of the second biggest extinct volcano in the world.

Byron Bay - long known to the surfing fraternity for Wategos Beach on Cape Byron. Byron Bay is a premier resort town with excellent surf beaches and sheltered coves, restaurants, cafes, art galleries and a growing alternative lifestyle culture.

Numerous holiday activities throughout the year. Whale spotting from the Cape Byron Lighthouse during the annual migrations in June-July and Sept-Nov. Dolphins in the area all year round. Ocean Shores Golf Course enjoys a reputation as one of the state's best.

Ballina - popular New South Wales holiday destination known for sailing, fishing and excellent beaches. Good surf beaches north of town as well as sheltered beaches. Lennox Heads is just north of Ballina and is considered to have some of the best surf on the coast and is home to Lake Ainsworth which is popular with sailing and windsurfing enthusiasts. The Naval & Maritime Museum is home to the Las Balsas Expedition raft that sailed from South America in 1973. A  cruise on the Richmond River to see the surrounding rural countryside.

Lismore - regional centre of the Northern Rivers District and servicing the surrounding farming communities. MV Bennelong cruises the Richmond and Wilson Rivers to Ballina. Rotary Rainforest Reserve offers 6 hectares of rainforest and boardwalk in the urban area. Macadamia Magic for an introduction to Australia's favourite nut, view platypus at Rocky Creek Dam or view the lovely Protestor Falls in the Nightcap National Park.

Grafton - graceful town on the Clarence River, well known for its riverbank parks. Elegant boulevards and grand Victorian homes, many listed by the  National Trust. Lies at the centre of a rich sugar cane farming area. Intersection point of the Pacific Highway and the Gwydir Highway which runs west into the New England region.

Known for its jacaranda tree lined streets and the Jacaranda Festival in late October. Ulmarra Village for its turn-of-the-century river port. Canoeing and rafting on numerous white-water rivers in the area.
