regional map South East Queensland Holidays

Stretching from Maryborough in the north to the New South Wales border in the south and west across the rolling plains of the Darling Downs. The Queensland south east is one of the most popular holiday regions in the world.

The coastal area includes the World Heritage listed Fraser Island, whale watching from Hervey Bay and North Stradbroke Island and the famous unspoiled beaches of the Sunshine Coast and Gold Coast. These are the holiday mecca areas of Australia and offer access to both secluded and surf beaches as well as theme park attractions to suit all tastes.

Back from the coast lie the hinterland areas with beautiful rolling landscapes and pockets of remaining rainforests. Attractions include historic homesteads as well as some fine national parks. Further west the crop areas give way to sheep and cattle grazing.

Places of Interest

Maryborough - imposing Victorian buildings on the Mary River. Centre for surrounding sugar industry. National Trust have listed Brennnan and McGeraghty, a store preserved exactly as it was 100 years ago.

Hervey Bay - access to Fraser Island. Whale watching centre of Australia July to mid-Oct.
