The Eyre Peninsula
A narrow coastal region along the Great Australian Bight and stretching from the Spencer Gulf in the east to the border with Western Australia. Farming, agriculture and iron ore on the Eyre Peninsula with popular holiday retreats on the Spencer Gulf coastline. Surf beaches, rugged coastal formations and a marine breeding grounds on the west coast of the peninsula. Heading west, the region quickly changes to long stretches of flat semi-desert where the inhabitants are few and far between and generally reside at the occasional road stops dotted along the highway.
Head south through the quiet seaside townships of Arno Bay and Port Niell before reaching Tumby Bay with its white beaches and National Trust Museum. Offshore, the Sir Joseph Banks Islands are home to colonies of sea lions and marine birdlife. Port Lincoln - situated at the bottom of the Eyre Peninsula and best known as the tuna capital of Australia. Port Lincoln has several historic buildings and some good lookouts over the coastline. Nearby Cape Carnot and the Lincoln National Park for their spectacular coastlines. Port Lincoln to Ceduna - the west coast of the Eyre Peninsula. Surf beaches, rugged scenic coastlines, good fishing and peaceful isolation. Coffin Bay is a holiday village with quiet beaches, good fishing and nearby national parks. Elliston is a small resort and fishing township with salmon fishing at Lock Wells and spectacular coastal scenery at nearby Anxious Bay and Salmon Point. Streaky Bay is another coastal township offering good fishing.
